Something stuck in the pump
Coins, hair ties, bra wires and sand end up in the pump and jam it. We clear it out and check the pump still works.
Drain pump has failed
The pump hums but no water moves, or it is silent. We replace it.
Blocked or kinked hose
The hose behind the machine can kink when the machine is pushed back, or block with lint. We clear or replace it.
Laundry drain problem
Sometimes the machine is fine and the laundry tub or standpipe is blocked. We check this first and tell you if you need a plumber.

Before you call
- Make sure the drain hose behind the machine is not squashed or kinked.
- Check the laundry tub or drain the hose empties into is not blocked or overflowing.
Anything past these checks is a job for us. Please do not open the back or top of the machine, and never work on it while it is plugged in. Water and power do not mix, and a heavy drum can shift without warning.
Questions about this repair
How do I get my clothes out?
If the door will not open because of the water, leave it. We drain the machine safely when we arrive.
Can I open the pump filter myself?
On many front loaders there is a small cover at the bottom front. A lot of water comes out, so put towels down. If you would rather not, we do it as part of the visit.
Why does it keep blocking?
Loose items in pockets are the usual cause. Sand from beach towels and sports gear is another.
